Alabama is within the College Football Playoff, and SMU is out, based on Jerry Palm’s newest projections.
The CBS analyst has Kalen DeBoer’s Crimson Tide slotted as a No. 11 seed headed to play Penn State. Meanwhile, No. 8 SMU’s rally within the ACC Championship Game on Saturday fell quick, and, regardless of how the sport performed out, Palm has the Mustangs on the surface trying in.
“The quick reply is that after the loss, SMU’s resume seems much more like Miami’s than it does Alabama’s,” Palm instructed AL.com late Saturday evening. “And we all know how the committee feels about Bama vs Miami.
“It’s nonetheless a loss (for SMU). The drawback was dropping, not the margin.”

Much has been made about not penalizing groups for advancing to their convention championship sport. In quick, a crew shouldn’t fall out of CFP favor as a result of it misplaced an additional sport others didn’t need to play.
“Not actually,” when requested if SMU’s loss coming in a title sport is seen in a different way than a regular-season sport. “In common, groups that lose aggressive video games to increased ranked groups don’t get punished a lot. Higher ranked groups dropping (like SMU) and blowouts are completely different and also you see extra distinguished changes traditionally talking.”

Palm initiatives Clemson because the No. 12 seed, dealing with No. 5 Texas, who fell within the SEC Championship Game to No. 2 Georgia earlier within the day.
Undefeated Oregon is the highest seed after profitable the Big Ten Championship Game over Penn State on Saturday evening.
Palm wrote concerning the state of affairs of a Clemson win and what it could imply for Alabama just a few days in the past.
Per his story:
“The ceiling for SMU’s fall down the rankings is correct above No. 12 Miami. There isn’t any head-to-head outcome, however SMU would have higher losses and neither crew would have a win over a ranked opponent. Staying forward of Alabama appears unlikely as a result of with a loss to Clemson, SMU’s resume seems rather more like Miami’s than it does that of the Crimson Tide. We already know the way the committee feels about that comparability, so that is seemingly an elimination sport for SMU as effectively.”
