US Navy defeats Houthi assaults in Gulf of Aden for second time in weeks

U.S. Navy destroyers shot down Houthi missiles and drones for the second time in a month, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) mentioned Tuesday.

The USS Stockdale (DDG 106) and USS O’Kane (DDG 77) efficiently defeated a variety of Houthi-launched weapons whereas transiting the Gulf of Aden on Dec. 9 and 10, the Navy mentioned.

The ships have been escorting U.S. owned and operated service provider vessels once they efficiently engaged and defeated a number of one-way assaults, uncrewed aerial techniques and one anti-ship cruise missile.

This assault marks the second in a month, with the primary happening from Nov. 30 to Dec. 1 when the ships defeated an Iran-backed Houthi assault.

“These actions mirror the continued dedication of CENTCOM forces to guard U.S. personnel, regional companions, and worldwide transport, in opposition to assaults by Iran-backed Houthis,” the command mentioned in a press release.

American personnel weren’t injured, CENTCOM added, and there have been no accidents or harm to the ships.

The attacks against shipping are ongoing and Houthi militants vow to proceed till Israel ends its marketing campaign in Gaza.
