The Cuban authorities stated Wednesday that 13 troopers had died after an explosion every week earlier in an arms depot within the nation’s east.

Cuba’s Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces stated in a statement Wednesday that “it’s formally declared that the 13 comrades are deceased.”

The explosion, which the ministry stated was possible the reason for a brief circuit and energy failure, occurred on Tuesday final week in Melones, about 450 miles east of the capital Havana. It prompted the evacuation of greater than 1,200 residents of the world.

Cuban army officers stated that entry to the location stays not possible because of the advanced terrain, poisonous gases and extreme structural injury.

“It hurts deeply to substantiate the demise of officers, non-commissioners and troopers who heroically confronted the accident in a development that saved battle materials from the army area of Holguín,” Cuba’s chief Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez stated in a statement on social media. “They died heroically and as heroes they deserve our deepest tribute and companionship to their family members within the ache of loss.

The authorities named all 13 troopers in a social media post Wednesday.

The 13 troopers had initially been declared lacking, the Reuters information company reported, and officers beforehand stated the blast was set off by a fireplace at a development web site,
