Jeannot Szwarc, the veteran director recognized for helming Supergirl, Jaws 2 and Somewhere in Time, handed away on the age of 87.

His son Sacha Szwarc confirmed the information in an Instagram publish on Friday, January 17, with out disclosing the reason for dying.

Writing within the caption of a black and white image of his father, Sacha revealed that the French filmmaker breathed his final at early Tuesday morning.

“My father Jeannot Szwarc sadly left us. We are all shocked and devastated by his sudden departure,” he started.

The son described the late filmmaker as “actually certainly one of a form, a humorous and joyful man. A gifted director, a beneficiant buddy, a loving husband and father.”

“We cherished him very a lot and can miss him vastly, however he’ll at all times be with us in our hearts,” Sacha wrote earlier than signing off with, saying, “Rest in peace, pricey Jeannot. Love you papa [red heart emoji].”
