Backpacks stuffed with $1.1 million value of cocaine present in wooded space close to border with Canada

Agents on patrol found two backpacks filled with greater than $1.1 million value of cocaine in Washington state close to the border with Canada, U.S. Customs and Border Protection stated Monday.

The brokers have been out final Thursday in a wooded space in Lynden, positioned in northwest Washington, close to a port of entry, once they spotted two black backpacks mendacity on the bottom, officers stated in a information launch. They searched the backpacks and located 30 brick-like packages of a white, powdery substance.

After testing the substance, officers decided that it was cocaine and turned it over to the Drug Enforcement Administration. Under federal legislation, most seized drugs are destroyed, although some samples are retained as proof for prison prosecutions.

“Thanks to the vigilance of Blaine Sector Border Patrol brokers these harmful narcotics have been prevented from reaching our communities,” Chief Patrol Agent Rosario Vasquez stated in a press launch. “Our brokers work tirelessly day in and time out to guard this nation, and this seizure highlights that essential dedication.”

Officials didn’t say if any arrests have been made in reference to the invention.

Cocaine is listed as a Schedule II drug beneath the Controlled Substances Act, which means it has a excessive potential for abuse and has an accepted medical use for therapy within the U.S., in accordance with the Drug Enforcement Administration. Abuse can result in irregular heartbeat, ischemic coronary heart situations, sudden cardiac arrest, convulsions, strokes and demise.
