CarMax Is Selling a Bunch of Identical Lime Green, Single-Cab F-150 Pickups

Let’s say you’re ending the yr with somewhat little bit of spare time, and also you wish to begin a one-make racing sequence. Buying a Miata is manner too straightforward and predictable. How a couple of Ford F-150? You’re in luck, as CarMax is promoting 11 an identical 2022 fashions completed in a well-known shade of inexperienced.

[UPDATE 12/11/2024 @ 2:35p ET: The mystery is solved! Thanks to a reader tip, we now know how and why CarMax ended up with these uniquely-specced F-150s. Check it out here. Also, you should know that most of the trucks have been sold since we published this yesterday. For the curious, the rest of the original story continues below.]

The 11 vehicles are scattered throughout the nation, from Washington to Massachusetts. One is in Georgia, one other is in Illinois, and two are in Texas. They’re all 2022 fashions with wherever between 13,000 and 42,000 miles. Pricing varies accordingly. At the cheaper finish of the spectrum, the 42,000-mile truck is positioned at a retailer in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and priced at $21,998. What’s fascinating, and maybe telling, is that these F-150s have been clearly configured as work vehicles. They’re XL fashions, which Ford positioned on the backside of the vary and aimed largely at fleet customers. Don’t search for fancy-looking alloys, leather-based upholstery, ambient lighting, or internet-connected navigation. The XL got here with steelies, material upholstery, and an AM/FM stereo that performs by a four-speaker sound system. Even options that aren’t thought-about all that premium anymore, like a push-button ignition, weren’t out there on the XL trim.

Which brings us again to racing: With a Nineteen Eighties-esque degree of apparatus, two doorways, six cylinders, and rear-wheel drive, that is about as gentle because it will get for a more moderen F-150. And, as Colin Chapman mentioned, “gentle is correct.” Granted, he in all probability wasn’t speaking a couple of late-model Ford pickup.

So, what provides? One chance is that they have been previously owned by instrument producer Ryobi, which operates a fleet of lime-green F-150s. Although unconfirmed, that might clarify why they’re all painted in an uncommon shade not supplied by Ford, why they’re all an identical, and why they’re all very, very primary. Another choice is that that is purely a coincidence. It’s just like the infinite monkey theorem utilized to Ford pickups and CarMax shops.
