Australia PM says Musk pushing agenda after social media ban – DW – 12/01/2024

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Sunday stated billionaire Elon Musk’s criticism of the nation’s try and restrict social media use was meant to push his personal agenda as proprietor of X, previously Twitter.

This comes after Australia accepted a ban on use of social media for youngsters underneath 16 years of age with no exemptions for parental consent or preexisting accounts. It is without doubt one of the strictest laws a rustic has positioned on social platforms. While particulars on how the ban shall be enforced are scarce, the onus to uphold it’ll fall on the platforms.

Once it comes into pressure in 12 months, this ban is more likely to have a major affect on platforms like Facebook, TikTookay, Instagram and Musk’s X.

Albanese says ‘we are going to have interaction’ with Elon Musk 

When requested by Australian media if he was ready to interact with Musk over the ban, Albanese stated, “We’ll discuss to anybody.”

“With regard to Elon Musk, he has an agenda. He’s entitled to push that because the proprietor of X, previously often called Twitter,” Albanese stated.

When the interviewer added that Musk is near US President-elect Donald Trump, Albanese stated, “We will have interaction, we are going to have interaction.”

Musk – who has been named Donald Trump’s authorities effectivity chief within the incoming US administration – posted on X final month that the regulation “looks like a backdoor solution to management entry to the Internet by all Australians.”
