Debbie Nelson, mom of rapper Eminem, died on Monday, December 2, on the age of 69, stories the New York Times. Vulture has confirmed the information with Eminem’s consultant. People stories that Nelson died of problems with lung most cancers. Nelson gave start to Eminem, actual title Marshall Mathers, on October 17, 1972, when she was 17 years outdated, and he’s her oldest son. Her ex-husband, Marshall Bruce Mathers Jr. (who died in 2019), left their household shortly after Eminem was born, and he or she grew to become a single mom with Eminem and his half-brother, Nathan Mathers. “Hatred and blended feelings immediately,” Nathan posted on Instagram Stories on December 3, seemingly referencing the information. Nelson’s strained relationship with Eminem was mentioned in a number of songs in his early music; she even went so far as suing him for defamation for the 1999’s single “My Name Is,” with lyrics like “99 % of my life, I used to be lied to/I simply discovered my mother does extra dope than I do (Damn).” She received the lawsuit and obtained about $25,000.

However, the lawsuit by no means scared Eminem from writing extra songs about his mom. 2002’s “Cleanin’ Out My Closet” featured heavy criticism of each of his dad and mom: “Now, I’d by no means diss my very own mama simply to get recognition/Take a second to pay attention ‘fore you assume this file is dissin’/But put your self in my place, simply attempt to envision/Witnessin’ your mama poppin’ prescription capsules within the kitchen/Bitchin’ that somebody’s all the time goin’ by way of her purse and shit’s missin’.” He did affectionately discuss with his mom in one in every of his most well-known lyrics (“Mom’s Spaghetti” in “Lose Yourself”) and ultimately opened a restaurant and pasta line with the identical title.
