FTC bans GM from disclosing driver, client information to client reporting companies

U.S. automaker General Motors shall be banned for 5 years from disclosing shoppers’ delicate geolocation and driver conduct information to client reporting companies, the Federal Trade Commission mentioned in an announcement on Thursday.

The company alleged General Motors collected, used, and offered drivers’ exact geolocation information and driving conduct info from hundreds of thousands of autos, which can be utilized to set insurance coverage charges, with out notifying shoppers and acquiring consent.

The firm has settled the FTC’s allegations, the regulatory company added.
