Nicko McBrain has performed his ultimate present with Iron Maiden. The drummer, whose retirement from touring was introduced earlier this weekend, carried out his ultimate present with the band as their 81-date Future Past tour got here to an finish on the Allianz Parque in São Paulo, Brazil.
With the group chanting “Nicko! Nicko!” after Stranger In A Strange Land, the second tune of the set, frontman Bruce Dickinson paused to pay tribute to the person who’s occupied Iron Maiden’s drum stool since changing Clive Burr in 1982.
“Tonight is a really particular evening,” Dickinson tells the 55,000-strong crowd. “As a few of you – I believe in all probability all of you – will know, this morning Nicko introduced that he was stepping again from taking part in dwell drums with Iron Maiden.
“For 42 years Nicko has been on this band. He was a drummer earlier than I used to be a singer, he was a pilot earlier than I used to be a pilot [Dickinson was inspired to train after McBrain flew him from France to Jersey], and now he isn’t leaving the band, however he is simply not taking part in dwell with us anymore.”
Following Bruce’s speech, the group continues to chant Nicko’s identify, and the drummer stands as much as thank them for the tribute.

Announcing his retirement from touring, McBrain mentioned, “After a lot consideration, it’s with each sorrow and pleasure, I announce my determination to take a step again from the grind of the intensive touring way of life. Today, Sat, Dec seventh, Sao Paulo might be my ultimate gig with Iron Maiden. I want the band a lot success shifting ahead.”
McBrain’s alternative is Simon Dawson, who performs in British Lion, Iron Maiden bassist Steve Harris’s aspect venture.
